Yay!

Meet Oscar, he is the first of the Vicktory dogs to pass his canine good citizenship tests and as such is now eligible for adoption! Poor little guy got to retake his test after environmental hazards like stepping on thorns and sitting on fire ants.
Any dog is capable of being a good dog, even those that had rough starts!

I've been following the stories of 22 Vicktory Dogs (as the Vick dogs are being called now) who have been living at Best Friends . These dogs are so amazing and it makes me overjoyed to see the love they receive at Best Friends. In honor of Best Friends' 25th anniversary, and in honor of these wonderful dogs, Carivintâs Winery has a collection of Vicktory Dogs wine. All the bottles have labels featuring paintings of these 22 pretty pitties. I'm not a wine person, but I think this is awesome. The paintings on the labels were done by Best Friends' founder, Cyrus Mejia, and they are too adorable.

I just thought a little good news never hurts.

Clothing for Pit Bulls?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the group, but was hoping someone could help.

I recently saw a post on Rachael Ray's site with a picture of Isaboo in an adorable sweater. Since I live in Texas, my girl Princess doesn't usually need any, but we are taking her on our ski trip this year and thought it would be useful. Only problem is Petsmart, Petco and other stores in the area only carry tiny clothes for tiny dogs.

Do any of ya'll clothe your pits in winter? If so where do you get quality clothing?

1. DO NOT alter their animal's appearance for unnecessary reasons. This includes ear and tail docking.
2. Crate-train their animals. Veterinarians and trainers agree this is the easiest way to potty-train an animal, as well as prevent separation anxiety and destruction caused by teething and a puppy's natural chewing impulses, which often don't begin until a puppy is older.
3. DO NOT strike or otherwise physically punish a puppy. This is counterproductive and will eventually come back to make the puppy aggressive.
4. Socialize their animals early, and often- so they do not fear things. Before your puppy is 12 weeks old, make sure it has met other adults, children, and babies, as well as people of other races. Also make sure it has met dogs (that you know have had ALL VACCINATIONS) and cats, if possible. Take your pup for car rides and walks so they experience different sounds and smells.
5. DO NOT take their puppy to a dog park or dog "common area" before they've had all their vaccines (3 mos.). This exposes them to parvo, a devastating virus that is often deadly.
6. Exercise their puppy regularly- one hour of walking/heavy play per day is important once the puppy is past three months of age unless there are health problems.
7. DO NOT give their puppy adult food before 6 months of age. Puppies need the extra vitamins and fats in puppy food. Make sure the puppy only eats the amount recommended. Do not feed dogs people food!
7. Spay/neuter their dog when their vet recommends. Breeding dogs should be left to licensed breeders, and fixing your pup means they will live longer and be less aggressive.

A happy dog is hard work but well worth it!

I'm sorry I wasn't around when the original post regarding Rosie's ears went up. This type of action for a dog is something that is not consistent with our group regarding Pit Bulls.

The action of ear cropping is a very heated subject. Although I do not and would never advocate for this to be done to an animal, I am not naive enough to think it doesn't happen. The reasons that a dog would have it's ears cropped traditionally are no longer valid in our society as most dogs are companions rather than sport or working dogs. In particular, the cropping of the ears of a Pit Bull or other Bully Breed was traditionally to save the ears from tears during fighting. IN NO WAY WILL THIS GROUP ADVOCATE FIGTING OF ANY BREED, thus I pulled the post.

If you feel you can debate without hurt feelings or mud slinging, feel free to post, but if I find that comments here start getting nasty, I will pull it.
