I'm sorry I wasn't around when the original post regarding Rosie's ears went up. This type of action for a dog is something that is not consistent with our group regarding Pit Bulls.
The action of ear cropping is a very heated subject. Although I do not and would never advocate for this to be done to an animal, I am not naive enough to think it doesn't happen. The reasons that a dog would have it's ears cropped traditionally are no longer valid in our society as most dogs are companions rather than sport or working dogs. In particular, the cropping of the ears of a Pit Bull or other Bully Breed was traditionally to save the ears from tears during fighting. IN NO WAY WILL THIS GROUP ADVOCATE FIGTING OF ANY BREED, thus I pulled the post.
If you feel you can debate without hurt feelings or mud slinging, feel free to post, but if I find that comments here start getting nasty, I will pull it.
Thank You,
Kiddy

Thank you. I was beginning to doubt whether I should stick with this group!
1I am glad I didn't see the post you pulled. Yikes!
2Just a random note on the issue of dog fighting: Last summer my husband and I took a day trip down to Maryland to pick up a scooter. We took our dog with us. The guy who owned the scooter commented that our dog was really good looking. Then he asked us if we had ever "fought" him. We couldn't believe he would ask us that. His feeling was that dog fighting was "an elegant sport." My husband said he disagreed, we wrapped up business, and we got out of there. It made us sad and mad.
3We didn't crop her ears for dog fighting.
We love our dog. We did it because that's how we feel the breed should look. There is no law agaisnt it, and we did it as humanly as possible. We paid good money to have a vet with 35 years experiance do it in a sterile environment while she was asleep. 2 hours after her sugury she was back to her normal self running around outside playing with us.
There is more information here:
"Cropping is not cruel, or a mutilation. It IS a cosmetic surgery, but it is performed under sterile and clean enviroments by a veterinarian."
To look more into it here is the website:
http://www.cinemaboxers.com/croppinginfo.htm
I should also note that in order to have this procedure done, we both had to go in for an interview with our vet to make sure we were suitable clients. We do intent to show this puppy in the future and although you don't NEED to crop, we perfere the look (like I mentioned above).
4And, as I scrolled through the members of this group, I saw that I am NOT the only one who has cropped ears on my Pittie.
5Some people have pit bulls with cropped ears because their dogs were RESCUES. From ABUSE and FIGHTING. If my vet cropped ears or tails, I would immediately stop seeing that vet.
And since when is unnecessary surgery not cruel?
"I'm gonna stop pretending that people aren't psychotic."
6I understand that. It's the same with any breed though. Great Danes, Dobermans, Rotties...they all have alterations made to them after they born.
No one thinks twice about seeing a Rottie with a docked tail, but you see a Pittie with cropped ears and assume it's a fighting dog? If you ask me, that sounds like BSL.
And, for your information, there are two types of Pit Bull and Staffordshire ear crops. One if the fighting crop when more the 3/5 of the ear is taken off, and the other is the show crop in which over 3/5 of the ear remains.
Rosie has the show crop.
7I do not agree with ANY dog having alterations made. Let me make that clear. ANY.
For that matter, The AKC standard for AmStaffs actually states UNcropped is preferred. The AKC does not have a standard for APBTs as it doesn't recognize them. And The UKC APBT standard does not promote cropped over natural.
And the original purpose WAS for fighting- this is just a fact- and dog fighting is both
immoral and illegal.
As a person who lives in a city with plenty of rescue-able pits it bothers me a little when people go get pits from a breeder, but that is their choice. But when they take it upon themselves to mutilate those defenseless animals, well, I will never be convinced that it's O.K.
8Whatever, that's your own personal views. I did what I wanted to and frankly I don't feel bad about it. She's fine now, it doesn't even bother her.
I DO NOT support dog fighting and I never will - I just want to make that clear. This wasn't done for that reason at all.
9Me and my kiss bull are completely organic! Don't breed or buy when shelter animals die!
10I would never crop my pits ears. I think he's cute the way he is, but thats just my opinion.
